Across the world in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced teachers and learners to adopt a remote-based delivery mode. This shift from in-person to remote teaching and learning was a drastic change and new experience for most of us. Teachers needed to re-calibrate their pedagogy so that students can gain the full suite of benefits from language education within this new learning environment.

This panel brings together language educators and researchers to share their ideas and experience to develop and implement new remote-based teaching and learning practices. Speakers from diverse educational environments in Australia, Canada, Finland, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States discuss a variety of practical and theoretical issues including the use of various resources and pedagogical approaches to remote language learning environment.

At its core, language education is about communication and connection. Creative use of existing technologies and structures can enable us to achieve this goal even when we are physically apart.
