Christopher Diamond
Dr Chris Diamond is a Hindi lecturer at the School of Culture, History and Language in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific.
Christopher is interested in medieval and early-modern devotional and courtly literatures in Braj Bhasha, Avadhi, Maithili and Bengali. His current work is on the poet Vidyāpati.

Dr Yanyin Zhang is Senior Lecturer and linguist at the School of Culture, History and Language, specialising in second language acquisition research and education linguistics.
Her current research focuses on the processability aspects of language learning and the application of second language acquisition theories to classroom pedagogy.

Dr Duck-Young Lee is a Reader and Associate Professor at School of Culture, History and Language. His recent research interests are in Japanese-Korean linguistics, sociocultural linguistics, spoken discourse, and Japanese teaching methodology.

Her research focuses on the relationship between language and thought, political discourse in China from Mao’s time to the present, China’s language policy, Western discourses on China and linguistic landscape.

Associate Professor I Wayan Arka is a Senior Fellow in Linguistics at the School of Culture, History and Language in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific.
His research interests include descriptive, theoretical and typological linguistics, with a focus on the Austronesian and Papuan languages of Indonesia.

Her research interests include Cold War Thai literature, food memoir, narrative and language learning.

Jenny is the Convenor and Lecturer of the Tok Pisin language program at the School of Culture, History and Language in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific.
She is currently completing her PhD, researching the practice of periodically honouring lineage land transfer treaties in mortuary ceremonies in a northern New Ireland matrilineal community.

Dr Le Hoang Ngoc Yen is a Lecturer and Convenor of the Vietnamese program at the School of Culture, History and Language in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific.
In addition to research on health and well-being, stigmatised diseases and disabilities in Vietnam, Yen is interested in languages, cultures and, more recently, food and alternative diets in Asia.

Dr Li Narangoa is a Professor of Pacific and Asian History at the School of Culture, History and Language, specialising in modern Japanese and Mongolian history, culture and politics.
Her current research interests include Mongolian history, identity and cities; Japan’s relations with other Asian countries; and Japan’s colonial history, religion and military.
Peter Friedlander
Peter Friedlander
Associate Professor Peter Friedlander is a Reader in Hindi and the Deputy Director of Languages at the School of Culture, History Language.
Peter’s research is focused on the Old Hindi writings of Sant poets (Raidas, Kabir and Charandas); on the religions of South Asia, Dalit culture and literature; and the use of innovative language teaching methods.

His main research interests are second language pragmatics and second language acquisition in study abroad contexts.

Dr Yuri Takahashi is the lecturer and convener of Burmese at the School of Culture, History and Language in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific.
Yuri’s research interests include literature, music, history and culture in Myanmar, Japan and Australia. She. She also has a long-term curiosity about the acceptance of modernity as seen through Burmese literature.
